You can enjoy wildlife watching in the San Bernardino National Forest any time of the year. Early morning and early evening are usually the best times to catch a glimpse of birds and mammals, especially on hot summer days. Watch for lizards and snakes during the heat of the day. Hawks can be seen almost anytime.

Big Bear Lake

One of the best places to view wildlife in Big Bear is at the Stanfield Cut-off, the
causeway that crosses the eastern portion of Big Bear Lake. In winter watch
for Bald Eagles. Call the Big Bear Discovery Center for guided eagle programs,
909-382-2790. All year watch for white pelicans, coots, great blue herons,
and mergansers.
